Who can participate and are there any restrictions?

Bungee Workout is a rigorous, high-cardio exercise that uses the resistance of the bungee cord.

Participants must be in good health and not be under any movement restrictions from a doctor. Expectant mothers or those who gave birth recently (natural birth in the last 6 months or cesarean section in the last 12 months) should not participate in the workout.

You must not have any current injuries or recent surgeries (no surgeries in the past 6 months). Participants in Bungee Fitness cannot be pregnant.

Is there a weight or size limit?

Yes we do have a weight limit and measurement limits.For our clients’ safety and comfort, the weight limit for our facility is 300 lbs. Harnesses fit a variety of sizes with the max measurements of Waist 52″ and Leg Loop: 34″. If you do not meet these requirements you will not be able to participate in class. The weight limit is determined by the structural engineering specifications, architects, and insurance as well as our equipment (bungee cord strength and size of harnesses).

Is there an age limit?

Yes.  All Bungee Fitness classes have an age requirement of 18 years of age. For those under 18 they can join a class with their parent with studio permission. Please contact the studio prior to reserving your spot. We do now offer a teen and kids classes.

Instructors: Led by owner Christine DeFilippis, a seasoned fitness professional dedicated to providing engaging and effective workouts.

2. Flaunt Fitness

Location: 1939 S. 17th Street, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19145

Description: A body-positive, dance-focused studio known for pole fitness and aerial arts. Flaunt offers a high-energy bungee class with lots of flair. With two locations in the city, Flaunt is one of the most trusted names in fitness in all of Philadelphia. This gender-neutral studio offers a range of dance classes including bungee fitness and pole dancing.

What if the class is full? We do urge students to use our waitlist feature- go ahead, and add yourself. We tend to see a lot of movement with class registration and those listed on the wait list. 

What should I expect?  Bungee class involves a bit of cardio based running, jumping and lunges. If you are not able to do these type of activities well, Bungee class may be challenging for you. The harness is padded for comfort, but after an hour of activity you will be feeling pressure/pinching where the harness touches your body since your bodyweight is being pushed and pulled against the harness. 

Is there an age/size/weight restriction? Our bungee drop in classes are for ages 17+. We have harness sizes that fit 22-50″ waists. In order for a harness to be safe, snug and effective- it needs to be able to be placed over the hip bones. Our rigging holds well over a thousand pounds so that all can fly with us at The Aviary!

What do I wear? Clean gym shoes (indoor shoes only) or grippy socks are a must. Wear two layers of shorts or leggings until you get used to it. Some clients wear padded bike shorts for extra comfort. We suggest a fitted top since you may go upside down. Bring a water bottle and be prepared to get a little sweaty! 

Who shouldn’t do bungee? We do NOT recommend Bungee classes if you are pregnant, have had surgery of any kind in the past six months or have chronic pain or a medical condition involving the shoulders, wrists, hands or low back. If you have any of these conditions please consult with a physician before attempting Bungee.

Classes and Programs: One all-level bungee class is offered weekly with cardio, strength, and dance-style movement. Classes are open to anyone age 17 and older, and there is no weight limit.

Instructors: Classes are taught by taught by studio owner Pinki, who was trained in bungee through Grounded Aerial and Karen Fuhrman. She brings energy, inclusiveness, and fun to every class. The studio has many different instructors, including Kat, Peggy, Vera, Cassie, Nural, Morgan, and Vee, all of them sharing Pinki’s commitment to fitness and fun.

3.    Grounded Aerial

Location: 5129 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073

Description: Grounded Aerial combines dance, aerial acrobatics, and fitness for a unique bungee experience. Founded by a professional dancer and aerialist, the studio emphasizes safety, creativity, and fun for all fitness levels.

Level 1 begins the flight. Whether you want to teach bungee at your studio, touch up your teaching tools, learn new terms, develop a new skill, or maybe you just want to feel free and let go.  This is for everyone.

Level 2 continues the journey. After applying what you learned with level 1 training, we dive into more challenging terms and focus on pedagogical principles, artistic expression, holistic connections, and life applications. Most folks take Level 2 after six to twelve months of practicing and applying Level 1 terminology. Dig deeper to fly higher.  

Level 3 masters the navigation. You are strong and knowledgeable, you have a full understanding of your movement vocabulary, and with our personal mentorship, you will create your own style, artistry, and codification.  At this level, with Wren’s approval, you work closely with us to potentially certify others in Grounded Aerial® Bungee.

Classes and Programs: Beginner and intermediate bungee fitness classes. Sessions emphasize cardio, strength, and choreographed movement in the air. They also teach aerial silks classes, and even provide bungee fitness instructor training.

Instructors: The studio was founded by Karen Fuhrman, also known as Wren. A former Broadway choreographer, she has toured more than 90 countries with traveling shows and has taught as a Professor of Dance at New York University, DeSales University, and Kutztown University.
